BOOK SALES IN THE FOOD & DRINK SECTOR GENERATE OVER A$67M IN 2021

 

2021 sees the combined Food & Drink + Fitness & Diet sector down -4% in value on 2020, but value remains +7% higher than pre-pandemic 2019. Air frying continued its growth in popularity into 2021 with two of the Top 10 titles being air fryer cookbooks, The Easiest Air Fryer Book Ever! (Kim McCosker, 4 Ingredients) and Air Fryer Express (George Georgievski, Pan Macmillan) taking spots 2 and 10 respectively.

GRAPHIC NOVELS: AUSTRALIAN SECTOR GROWS BY +61% IN 2020

 

The Graphic Novels category has been increasing in value within Australia for some time. In 2020, Australian consumers purchased over 25k unique Graphic Novels titles, totalling one million copies in book sales and generating over $23.1M across this sector.

The Graphic Novels market has some unique characteristics that set it apart from the rest of the Adult Fiction category. For example on average, Australians paid $23.49 for a graphic novel in 2020, with an average discount of 12.6% off the Recommended Retail Price across the category. This was a much lower average discount than the 20.3% seen across the overall market. Graphic Novels is largely a series driven category, with the Top 10 titles accounting for 7% of volume sales in 2020. Kohei Horikoshi, the top selling author, took five of the Top 10 with his My Hero Academia series.
